We decided to have a sliced picnic ham for Sunday dinner, & my husband was thoughtful enough to make the ham while I was sewing. He made up this glaze recipe, & let me tell you…he hit this one out of the park! This would be wonderful for a holiday ham.
Ingredients:
1 cup brown sugar
3 – 4 tablespoons honey
2 generous tablespoons spicy brown mustard
3 tablespoons melted butter
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
Ham – we used a 7 lb. thick sliced picnic ham
Directions:
Mix all the ingredients together, taste & adjust the flavors as desired.
Separate the layers or slices of ham, & brush each with some of the glaze. Re-assemble and place in a roasting pan, & brush the top & outside with the glaze, saving about half of it for later on. Cover the roasting pan with the lid, and bake at 325 F for about 20 – 30 minutes per pound. Remove from the oven, and drain off juices. Brush with the remaining glaze, & place under the broiler for just a few minutes to thicken.
Recipe Notes:
Our ham ended up being almost fall apart tender, & the glaze was the perfect addition. This was so much better than just the “sweet” coating to a ham, it was a fantastic blend of ingredients. I never would have thought to put the glaze in between the slices, & not just on top.
My husband is a total “man’s man”…he can work on engines, weld, ride motorcycles, etc…but the man can cook, too! How lucky am I?!
The Hungry Dad would be swooning if I made him this!

You’re a lucky one! Looks amazing, but one question… does he make a terribly mess when he cooks like David? 🙂

Hahaha! Definately! There were drips of glaze on the cupboard & floor, but he’s also a good clean-er up-er so I’ve got it pretty darned good!
